Hello Bowlers, Students, &
Friends,
Just want to let everyone know about some
upcoming changes in our Sunday group classes.
Sunday, Nov. 16th,
morning:
There will be no bowling at the
Gold Coast due to a tournament, but Sunset Station bowling manager Jim
Welch was kind enough to let us move our normal afternoon time to a morning
time instead. The times will be from 9 am - 12 noon
(9 am to 10:30 am, and 10:30 am to 12 noon). We will be taking new
pix on this date and I am looking for a photographer with
a higher quality camera than I normally use. Pix usually come
out pretty good at Sunset as it's a beautiful newer bowling center with
great background colors. We haven't done pix at Sunset Station in a while
because during our normal times of 1-4 pm it's too busy for me to go down on the
lane and it might disturb some of the bowlers around us.
It should be fairly quiet in the morning and we'll be on the first
10 lanes when entering (lanes 61-70). If there is anyone interested
in taking the pictures, please email duffy@learntobowl.com. Sunset
Station group rate is $20 and this will include the pix. The pix will be
posted on the web site for you to learn from and/or to share with family and
friends.
I will also set up our high-tech training device that trains
your eyes to look down at your target. This device is so technically
advanced it adjusts to all bowlers regardless of
their vision, whether or not they wear contacts or glasses, and
regardless of anyone's height as well. Jean Parkey can be seen in the pix
on the left testing it out.
Sunday, Nov. 16th,
afternoon:
Our Sunday afternoon class at Sunset
Station we will NOT have because we will be there in the
morning as described above. I will be available in the afternoon
during the 1 - 4 pm time slot if anyone would like to schedule a private
lesson. I also offer a 90-minute session for a group of 4 for
$90. Great for teams and families.
Sunday, Nov. 23rd,
morning:
Our normal Sunday class at the Gold Coast
will be moved to the lovely Orleans Bowling Ctr. thanks to Bobby McVey for
a 1-time special clinic called "Spares, spares, & more
spares". Our start time will remain the same as the Gold Coast,
8-11 am (8 am - 9:30 am and 9:30 - 11 am). The Orleans has software that
allows us to set up any combination of pins so that you can practice your
"spares repeatedly", hence the name spares, spares, & more spares. For
the first hour of each session, we will have the 7 and the 10 pins set
up on each lane. If anyone should happen to make the 7-10 split, they
will win a $20 gift certificate good for any coaching service or
class offered through LearntoBowl.com. We will also
practice shooting a few other common spares, and more important, commonly
missed spares. This includes combinations such as "the wash-out"
(1-2-4-10), the 2-4-5-(8), and the "picket fence" (3-6-10). We will
reverse these spares on a few lanes for the left-handers. You will leave
this Sunday's class a better spare shooter or my name isn't Duff McGruff.
I am going to work with everyone to make
sure your targeting system gives you maximum room for error and I promise I'll
listen to those of you who want to convince me another way is better.
I encourage you to PLEASE bring the most important ball you have in your
arsenal (a plastic spare ball). If you don't have one, go see the fellers
at the Orleans Pro Shop or any of the K&K pro shops before Nov. 23rd so you
will be ready to up your average by making spares, spares, & more
spares. To rent a lane using this great feature normally costs $15 per
hour, our rate will be $20 for each 90 minute session and includes
coaching. I will give away a few hats and t-shirts, and also have a few
Storm bag tags and Storm bowling ball holders to give away courtesy of Storm Bowling
Products and Rich Carrubba (V.P. Storm). As most of you
know, I haven't hardly bowled for about 10 yrs, but when I did, almost
always threw Storm equipment. This week Rich sent me a new plastic spare
ball called the Ice Storm. Well, long story short, on Monday I took it and
a new Storm T-Road Pearl to try them out after finishing with
my lessons and bowled a 300 game and a 782 3-game series while bowling
in my sneakers. At one point I had 19 strikes in a row and attribute
it mostly to a very powerful Storm ball, the Orleans user-friendly oil
pattern, and a hard plastic spare ball that goes straight so as not to
miss any spares. So if you're like me and you can't hook the
ball like Tommy Jones or Randy Petersen, you may want to try
one of the new Storm bowling balls. My name is Duff McFluff and I
approve this message.
Bowling Facts:
A bowling pin is just over 4 3/4
(4.766") inches wide at it's widest point and is 15" tall. Click here for
more proof. Look at the pix below to see why it's recommended to hook at a
3-9 or 2-8 combination spare. With almost 21" separating the front
and back pins, you have to hit the lead pin almost dead-center to make them both
with a plastic ball. When the ball is hooking, it allows for a much bigger
target and more room for error. And by the way, please study
the diagram below and make sure you know all the pin numbers. It's
very hard to understand when a student says to me I just made a great
split. When I ask what pins it was, they do some pointing down the lane
and say that one, that one, and I think the one over there also.
In a future group class very soon, we
will be keeping score on paper. Be not afraid, the pencil (w/eraser) is
your friend.
Here's a recap of our
upcoming bowling schedule changes:

- 12 pm Sunset Station (picture day)

anyone you know wants to be the photographer this Sunday, the 16th, at
Sunset Station from 9 am - 12 noon.
Thanks to everyone who gives me the
opportunity to help them with their game and hope to see everyone soon.
Feel free to forward this email to your bowling or non-bowling friends. I
will be sending out more coaching tips and pointers in future emails. Also
check out the web site for this month's Learn to Bowl.com Star Bowler of the
Month from St. George Utah and the Learn to Bowl.com Bowling Joke of the
Month. It includes some great exercises for bowlers.
Happy bowling and high scoring to
all,
